IU in the fall—wow. The campus trees put on a show! Don’t skip the farmers market for local jams and fresh baked bread. Also, Oliver Winery does tastings and has a gorgeous picnic area. Anyone do the Hilly Hundred bike ride?

Caught the Friday night jam session at Country Girl Diner—locals sure know how to make bluegrass and pancakes go together. Best coffee in town.

Didn’t expect to find so much Scandinavian spirit in Iowa, but Decorah delivers. This town’s got more Norwegian flags than a fjord-side ferry. I rolled in for Nordic Fest, stuck around for trout streams and limestone bluffs, and left with a suitcase smelling like fresh-baked lefse.
